TYRC assures the availability of comprehensive adolescent substance abuse treatment for families who are low income and uninsured. Through collaboration with County Juvenile Services, Fort Worth Independent School District Attendance Control Court, and support from municipalities, TYRC turns children’s lives around.
The target population at TYRC includes males and females, ages 13-17, who exhibit signs of alcohol and drug abuse. Last year, 64% resided in Fort Worth, 19% in Arlington, and 17% were from other municipalities. Virtually all are low income and uninsured.
At intake, the primary abused substances were identified as marijuana (78%), alcohol (7%), cocaine (4%), and inhalants (1%). About 91% were on probation, awaiting trial or sentencing. Many were at least two years behind grade level in school or had dropped out. Many of the residential clients required medical services for previously undiagnosed mental health needs.
