What is MHMR of Tarrant County?
The mission of Mental Health and Mental Retardation of Tarrant County (MHMRTC) is
to help the people of Tarrant County overcome the problems associated with mental
illness, mental retardation, autism, addictive behaviors, and early childhood developmental
delays by ensuring the availability of quality services.
MHMR of Tarrant County (MHMRTC) is the local Mental Health and Mental Retardation
Authority for Tarrant County, Texas. Established in 1969 to provide locally governed
MHMR services, it is one of 41 MHMR centers in the State of Texas. MHMR of Tarrant
County is a local, independent unit of government directed by a Board of Trustees
which is appointed by the Tarrant County Commissioners Court.
MHMR of Tarrant County provides an array of core services for people overcoming
the challenges associated with mental health, mental retardation, addiction, and
early developmental delays. Many of the approximately 27,000 people served in 2007
are some of the most severely and chronically disabled in our community. Its staff
of 1100 includes psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, therapists, teachers,
case managers, dieticians, volunteers, and many others. All are committed to
providing services in a way that respects the dignity and basic human rights of
its clients.
MHMRTC provides:
- Mental health services;
- Mental retardation services;
- Addiction services for adults and adolescents; and
- Early Childhood Intervention services for babies and toddlers (birth to 3 years of age).
